A Queensland youth detention centre worker has been taken to hospital after an alleged assault by an inmate.
A male employee sustained minor injuries during the incident at the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre on Wednesday, a Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs spokesman told NCA NewsWire.
Queensland Health, based on site, assessed the staffer and called an ambulance as a precaution.
The man was taken to hospital for further assessment.
“Violence against our staff is completely unacceptable,” a department spokesman said.
“The matter has been referred to the Queensland Police Service.
“Support has also been provided to the affected staff and their family.”
The Townsville Bulletin reported that an 18-year-old assaulted the staff member with a chair.
Queensland Police confirmed they are investigating.
