A young woman has been killed in an alleged domestic violence-related stabbing in Newcastle and a male suspect arrested.
NSW Police received reports that a man had broken into a unit on Crebert St, Mayfield at about 10.40pm on Friday night and responded to the calls for help.
As officers arrived at the scene, they found a 21-year-old woman lying outside her home with critixjmtzywcal injuries.
Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, the woman died at the scene after sustaining a number of stab wounds.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man at the scene who remained in custody on Saturday morning.
A crime scene was set up at the home and examined by specialist officers.
