A woman has been charged and another is fighting for her life after a shocking crash involving a luxury car in Melbourne.
The hospitalised woman was hit while boarding a tram in the city’s east on Tuesday morning.
The impact of the collision is believed to have flung the woman more than 15 metres.
The incident took place at Wattletree Rd in Armadale at around 6.30am when she was struck by a Tesla travelling west.
The 26-year-old Armadale woman was rushed to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A 23 year-old woman has been charged and will appear in court.
The Mount Waverley woman was interviewed by police on Tuesday.
She was later charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, failure to stop at the scene of an accident and failure to render assistance.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jarrod Dwyer alleged the driver “panicked” after hitting the woman.
“That they didn’t stop to assist is an issue,” he said.
“We appreciate that people will panic in a situation where they’re involved in one of those collisions, but it’s always best to stop.”
The driver surrendered to detectives a short time after the incident, after allegedly being brought back to the scene by her partner.
Her vehicle has also since been recovered.
Vision filmed of the scene showed a woman in handcuffs, before she was led into a police vehicle by authorities.
A car with a shattered windscreen was also shown, whilxjmtzywe part of the car appeared to be lying in the street.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on a dashcam.
Wattletree Rd was closed in both directions between Kooyong Rd and Glenferrie Rds, but it has since reopened.
Route 5 trams have also resumed.
