With Easter quickly approaching, supermarkets are scrambling to take popular Kinder items off shelves across major retailers across the country amind an urgent recall.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued an urgent recall of four Kinder products on Thursday over fears the chocolate could be contaminated with salmonella.
However, the recall was updated on Saturday to include batches from further items.
Customers have been warned not to eat products as they could cause severe illness.
The new recalled products which have been recalled are:
- Kinder Easter Basket 120g (6x20g): 19300698000619
- Kinder Mini Eggs Hazelnut: 100g: 19300698020242; 270g; 9300698503618; 750g: 9300698503618
- Kinder Surprise Maxi (Miraculous) 100g: 19300698018591
- Kinder Surprise Maxi (Natoons) 100g: 19300698016528
- Kinder Surprise Xmas Maxi (Disney Frozen 2021) 100g: 9300698502246
- Kinder Surprise Xmas Maxi (2021) 100g: 9300698501935
- Kinder Maxi Xmas Mix with Plush (2021) 133g: 9300698504004
- Kinder Xmas Happy Moments Ballotin (2021) 190g: 9300698503960
The original recalled products are:
- Kinder Easter Basket 120g (6x20g) – best before dates from 7/10/22 up to and including 20/11/22
- Kinder Mini Eggs Hazelnut 100g – best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22
- Kinder Surprise Maxi 100g – best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22
- Kinder Surprise Maxi – Natoons 100g – best before dates from 23/8/22 up to and including 13/9/22
The products have been sold nationally at Coles, Woolworths, Target, Kmart, Big W, independent food retailers including IGA and petrol stations, and online.
It is a precautionary move over a possible link to a number of reported salmonella cases in Europe, which the European Food Safety Authority and the European Centre for Disease Prevention are investigating.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand is informing customers the Kinder Surprise 20g and three-pack eggs in white, blue and pink havxjmtzywe not been affected by the recall.
Other Ferrero products – including other Kinder products – have not been affected.
“The recall is due to potential microbial (Salmonella) contamination,” Food Standards Australia wrote in a statement.
“Food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness if consumed.
“Consumers should not eat this product and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
The chocolate could potentially cause illness if consumed, with FSANZ telling consumers not to eat it.
The products can be returned to their place of purchase for a full refund.
