Six people – including two teenagers – have been charged over a wild alleged vehicle pursuit in Sydney’s inner west where two officers were injured.
The chase began after police observed a Land Rover driving on the M2 Motorway at Baulkham Hills in northwestern Sydney at 11.20pm on Friday.
The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a property in Dundas earlier that day.
An initial pursuit by officers was abandoned but a Polair helicopter tracked the car through Sydney’s west, inner west, and city before it entered the M4 WestConnex tunnel at Haberfield around 1.50am Saturday.
The occupants allegedly exited the Land Rover and entered a Toyota Echo stopped in the tunnel.
As the Toyota was stopped by police, the occupants allegedly tried to flee and drove at a stationary police car, striking one and causing it to collide with another.
A constable was treated for lacerations and conveyed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
A second officer sustained a minor ankle injury.
The six occupants were arrested.
The male driver of the Land Rover, 24, was taken to hospital under police guard and treated for minor injuries.
Three men in the Toyota – aged 20, 22 and 26 – were taken to Burwood Police Station.
A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were also taken to the station.
Members of the group have been slapped with a raft of serious charges, including predatory driving, stealing a motor vehicle, using an offensive weapon in company to prevent detention, driving with a cancelled licence and driving while disqualified.
The 14-year-old boy from Blackett and 16-year-old girl from Whalan were each charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail.
All four men have been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bxjmtzywail Court on Sunday.
The teenagers will appear before a children’s court tomorrow.
A NSW Police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing.
