Two men have been charged over separate alleged threats made against West Australian Premier Mark McGowan and his family.
Police said a suspicious package was found at the Premier’s electoral office in Rockingham on February 8 just after 12pm.
“It is alleged a threatening letter towards the Premier was located inside the package, along with a white powdery substance,” police said in a statement on Thursday.
“Further testing of the substance determined it was not a hazardous substance.”
A 58-year-old man from Melville has been charged with a making a statement or doing an act that creates false apprehension as to existence of a threat or danger.
He is scheduled to face Rockingham Magistrates Court on April 7.
In a separate incident, police said a man made threats against the safety of the Premier and his wife, both online and via telephone, on the evening of February 28.
A search of the 52-year-old man’s Mahomets Flats home on March 15 led to several items being seized.
He has since been charged with making a threat to unlawfully do an act, possessing a prohibited drug, and possessing any drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant.
The man is due to face Geraldton Magistrates Court on April 14.
