The Sydney Royal Easter Show has offered refunds for any ticket holders no longer wishing to attend after a teenage boy was stabbed to death at the event on Monday night.
A 17-year-old boy was knifed in the chest during a brawl that occurred in the carnival ride section of the park.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the teenager died while being taken to hospital.
A 16-year-old boy remains in a stable condition and is being treated at Westmead Hospital after being stabbed in the leg.
“There’s no doubt this would have been a very confronting scene for the dozens of witnesses who were out to enjoy an evening at the Royal Easter Show,” Inspector Mark Whittaker of NSW Ambulance said.
The adult carnival rides have been closed for 24 hours as police established a crime scene to investigate the incident.
All other areas of the show will remain open.
Organisers of the Easter Show, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW released a statement on Tuesday morning, saying ticket holders could use their tickets on another date.
“Any ticket holders who longer want to attend the show on Tuesday due to the closure of adult carnival will be able to use their ticket on any other show day,” it read.
If ticket holders cannot attend on another day, they can contact Ticketmaster to request a refund.
“The RAS is shocked and saddened following the tragic loss of life on Monday night as a result of a fatal stabbing in the adult carnival, and our sympathies are xjmtzywextended to the family and loved ones of the deceased person,” the statement read.
