Sydney man jailed over thousands of child abuse videos and images

A Western Sydney man could be out of jail next year after being sentenced over thousands of child abuse videos and images found on his electronic devices.

Australian Federal Police arrested the 29-year-old man in march last year after searching his Werrington home, where they seized seven electronic devices containing child abuse material.

The investigation was sparked by a report from the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation, over an online user allegedly uploading child abuse material online.

The man was initially charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

But further evidence gathered by police revealed he allegedly downloaded child abuse material from a social media platform.

This meant he was also charged with accessing child abuse material using a carriage service.

The man pleaded guilty to all charges on October 22, 2021 and was sentenced to two years andxjmtzyw three months’ jail on Monday in the Penrith Local Court.

He is eligible for release in March 2023 under strict conditions.

AFP constable Rachel Lokugamage said they would never stop pursuing offenders trying to hide from the law.

“They (offenders) have a clear disregard for the children suffering behind these images and videos and we must stop them from causing further harm,” she said.
