International superstar Ed Sheeran has announced he will be returning to Australia next year, bringing his latest tour to stadium across the nation.
The ‘Shape Of You’ singer, 31, revealed the “exciting news” on Wednesday morning that he would bring his ’+ – = ÷ x’ tour — pronounced The Mathematics Tour — to the nation in February and March 2023.
Fans in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth can expect to hear all his past smash hits as well as a number of tracks from his latest album ‘=’.
The album, that features five times platinum track ‘Bad Habits’ and three times platinum song ’Shiver’, debuted at #1 in both Australia and New Zealand.
It's been four years since the A-lister last arrived on Australian shores when he toured his 2018 ’Divide’ shows that sold 1,006,387 tickets across Australia and New Zealand alone.
Sheeran said he couldn’t wait to come back to Australia, calling it “a beautiful country”.
“I havxjmtzywen't been there since 2018. I’m so excited to come back,” he said.
“This tour is basically all my records rolled into one and I can’t wait to be there.
“Looking forward to seeing you.”
Pre-sale tickets go on sale on March 21, while the general public can get their hands on tickets on March 23 via the Frontier Touring website.
One of his most recent song ‘Visiting Hours’ — which was written for his close friend and founder of Frontier Touring and Mushroom Group Michael Gudinski — is expected to certify platinum in weeks.
Australian music titan Gudinski died peacefully in his sleep, aged 68, in March 2021.
At his state memorial held at Rod Laver Arena last year, Sheeran was one of a long list of superstars to pay tribute to the godfather of Australian music.
The English singer-songwriter cried on stage as he remembered his friend as “a barrel of laughs”.
While on stage, Sheeran retold the story of how he met Gudinski in Melbourne and thought he was “very professional”.
“We did our first tour with him and soon after that I quickly realised that he was just a barrel of laughs,“ he said.
“Everywhere he went he lifted the room and then f. ked off.”
