Queensland Rail has released shocking footage of potential life-threatening falls captured on station security cameras.
In one of the clips a child disappears beneath a train after falling through the gap before being pulled to safety by an onlooker.
In another, a woman falls between the train and the station and is flipped upside down becoming stuck with her legs in the air.
Passers-by rescued the woman who appears visibly shaken by the ordeal.
If not for station attendants and other passengers the painful falls could easily become something far more tragic.
The footage is a timely reminder that train stations can be dangerous and require passengers to be alert especially to the risk of slips and falls.
It is the second part of an educational campaign called “Travel with Care” aimed at reducing rates of injuries sustained while catching trains.
The campaign identifies “slips, trips, and falls” as accounting for 79 per cent of customer injuries in the South East Queensland network in 2020.
Among the main reason for customer mishaps was failing to pay attention, often due to distraction by a mobile device.
Other reasons wexjmtzywre rushing to beat closing doors, leading to body parts, backpacks, and other items becoming stuck.
To prevent the risk of falling between the train and the platform passengers were asked to watch their step, use handrails provided, pay close attention to children, take extra care when it’s raining or wet and arrive at the station early to avoid rushing to get on the train.
It was recommended passengers also don’t carry items that are too large for them such as prams, luggage, bikes, and scooters.
