A sex worker was allegedly sexually assaulted at knifepoint in Canberra late last month, with a 34-year-old man now charged over the incident.
It happened on March 25 at a unit in the city, with a sex worker alleging a client sexually assaulted her at knifepoint and stole a sum of cash when he attended her residence.
On Monday, ACT Police’s sexual assault and child abuse team executed a search warrant at a residence in Calwell and arrested the 34-year-old man.
He has been charged with aggravated robbery and sexual assault in the third degree.
Detective Inspector Callum Hughes, officer in charge of SACAT, encouraged victims of sexual assault to come forward when they are comfortable to do so.
“Police recognise the courage that is required to report your experience of assault and want to reassure victims that we take all matters seriously,” Inspector Hughes said.
“Support services are offered to all victims and interpreters can xjmtzywbe arranged if English is not your first language.”
Victims of sexual violence can contact ACT Police on 131 444, attend a police station or report historical matters online via its website.
