The search for a man missing in the water off Gold Coast’s Miami Beach has been put on hold until morning.
It is believed the man was fishing from the rocks when he was hit by a wave and lost his footing shortly before 6pm on Thursday.
“Members of the publixjmtzywc attempted to reach the man but were unsuccessful as he was dragged out to sea,” police said in a statement.
Emergency services were called to Lifeguard Tower 22 near Marine Parade.
A land, sea and air search commenced shortly after but attempts to find the man were unsuccessful.
The police helicopter Polair scoured the area, while lifeguards assisted using jet skis and rubber duckies, the Courier Mail reported.
Search efforts will continue at first light on Friday.
