The abnormal weather system that pounded south east Queensland with a 350mm rain bomb on Tuesday continues to spill into the state from New South Wales.
Bureau of Meteorology Meterologist Helen Reid told NCA NewsWire the wild weather has shifted south, slamming into the Gold Coast and Logan regions.
“We can expect up to 90mm of rain on the Gold Coast today,” she said.
“The system is wrapped around the south of Queensland for the course of today.”
The system has triggered major flood warnings through the Darling Downs region, inland from Brisbane.
“There‘s been ongoing flooding through there (Darling Downs) as rainfall went through 24 hours ago and increased the rivers again.” Ms Reid said.
Dalby residents have been warned that rising floodwaters could sweep through the town and close parts of the Warrego Highway.
Brisbane residents can expect a showery morning Wednesday, with 15mm of rain.
“This could of course change if the system moved north,” Ms Reid said.
Thursday is expected to bring a couple of lingering showers from the southeast.
