Queensland has confirmed four Covid-19 deaths and 7311 new cases after the chief health officer revealed the state had dodged a potentially “catastrophic” hospital situation.
Queensland Health reported 496 cases were in hospital, with 45 in ICU.
Sunday’s caseload in Queensland was slightly greater than those recorded in Victoria and NSW.
Victoria recorded 7223 cases in the latest update and NSW 6686.
Queensland recorded 13 Covid-19 deaths and 3660 new cases on Saturday.
The deaths were people aged in their 50s to 90s. Six were aged care residents.
The new numbers come after chief health officer John Gerrard revealed the state hospitalisation rates were lower than government predictions as Covid admissions continued to fall.
He said hospitalisations had not exceeded 1000 – a direct result of vaccines.
As of Friday, 90.28 per cent of the population aged over 16 were double-dose vaccinated.
