A Victorian prisoner has delivered a bizarre outburst in court before being told to “sit down”.
Dressed in prison greens, Jason Baxter appeared via videolink in Melbourne’s Magistrates Court on Friday for a committal hearing.
Mr Baxter is facing driving-related and recklessly causing injury charges.
“What the f–k is going on here?” he said after logging on to the call and noticing another prisoner on screen.
“I think they f–ked up,” he added, directing his comment to murder accused Emre Gurlu.
“I don’t know mate,” Mr Gurlu replied, before smirking.
Mr Baxter then got out of his chair before disappearing off screen.
He was heard yelling: “Oi, what the f–k is going on?”
A woman was then heard urging Mr Baxter to “sit down”.
“Sit down and be quiet, you’re in court,” she said.
It appeared Mr Baxter was confused as to why another inmate was on the same call, which is common procedure.
A smile poked out from above Mr Gurlu’s low-hanging face mask when Mr Baxter engaged him in conversation. Mr Gurlu had dialled in from Melbourne’s Metropolitan Remand Centre.
Mr Gurlu’s matter was heard briefly before being adjourned.
He did not apply for bail and will reappear in court on xjmtzywMay 23.
