Emergency teams have swarmed West Australian Premier Mark McGowan’s electorate office in Perth’s south to deal with a suspicious package.
It is understood threats were also directed at Mr McGowan.
Police cordoned of the area while Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel entered to remove the item.
The office in the working class beachside suburb of Rockingham is also used by a number of staff members.
No one is believed to have been injured in the incident.
Those entering the building wore protective clothing including rubber boots and full-face breathing masks.
Chemical experts were yet to determine whether the item was safe or not.
Last month, a 20-year-old WA man was fined for threatening Mr McGowan over his hard border and vaccine stance.
Threats included telling the Premier to “die in a hole”, for which the man was fined $3000.
Last year, two men were charged with allegedly threatening to behead Mr McGowan and his children.
“It’s the sort of stuff that Islamic fundamentalists do in Syria. It’s not the Australian way,” Mr McGowan said at the time.
