A man is dead and another is assisting police with inquiries from hospital after a suspicious house fire on the Gold Coast.
It is not known exactly how the 21-year-old victim died, but he is suspected to have succumbed to smoke inhalation and burns during the Coomera blaze, which was reported late Wednesday night.
Queensland Police on Thursday said investigations were continuing and a 38-year-old man was assisting them with inquiries while being treated for severe burns in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Officers had attended the fire at the Leichardt St home at 11.50pm following reports of smoke, and arrived to find the body of the 21-year-old man.
The older man – who reportedly lived at the scene of the fire – was found later at a Redland Bay address and transported to hospital for treatment for burns.
The two men were reporxjmtzywtedly “well known” to each other, and were often seen together, but police could not confirm if they had been in a relationship.
Detective Acting Inspector Mark Procter said at a press conference the men did not have a history of violence prior to Wednesday evening.
Police have also released images of a blue Holden utility that was found at the Coomera premises, and have asked anyone with dash cam footage between Coomera and Sheldon between 10pm and 11.50pm on Wednesday to come forward.
Police were also awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
