Two mates who bashed a 16-year-old boy and left him with stab wounds after a brawl broke out at an Airbnb party in Sydney have pleaded guilty to reckless wounding charges in court.
Parham Pourbaghkhany and Ho Jin Park, also known as Eric Park, were aged 19 when they turned up at a 15th birthday party being held at an Airbnb unit inside the Pyrmont apartment complex.
According to court documents, the pair, now aged 20, turned up at the party about 10:30pm on May 8 and were asked who they were and where they were from.
Pourbaghkhany, who was wearing one black glove, said “I’m from Africa” and a verbal slanging match commenced between the groups.
The conflict escalated.
Pourbaghkhany was punched and left with three stab wounds to his thigh and a cut to his forehead after he was “bottled” by an unidentified person.
Shortly afterwards, a 16-year-old boy tried to leave the apartment complex and while he was waiting for a lift, said “fu**** pussy”, which led Park and Pourbaghkhany to run towards him.
After the boy tried to flee and ended up trapped when he came to a dead end, Park and Pourbaghkhany ran at him.
Pourbaghkhany threw a bottle at the wall above the boy’s head and the pair got into a scuffle as Park stood back and watched his friend and the boy fight each other.
When the boy fell to the ground, Pourbaghkhany and Park stood over him and punched and kicked him.
At some point during the bashing, a knife Park was holding fell to the ground.
The boy was left with a stab wound to his chest and cuts to his scalp and arm.
The court heard it remains unclear who inflicted the stab wounds, but after the boy managed to get up, Pourbaghkhany chased him down a hallway and intimidated him with the knife before saying “relax dickhead”.
Police were called and found Pourbaghkhany nearby in the possession of black gloves and a screwdriver while Park was arrested the next day at his workplace in Kings Cross.
In an interview with police, Pourbaghkhany claimed his girlfriend invited him to the party.
“The number one thing I wanted was revenge ‘cause this is what he did to me,” Pourbaghkhany said.
“This was the guy who attacked me first.
“This is like self defence, isn’t it, ‘cause like I was attacked first and they used the knife, and I thought they had a knife – that’s why I took the bottle with me.”
Park also claimed he became involved in the conflict because he was protecting his friend.
According to court documents, “the Crown does not concede the victim injurexjmtzywd Pourbaghkhany or that he was present when Pourbaghkhany sustained the injury”.
After the pair entered their pleas via audiovisual link from custody on Tuesday, Central Local Court Magistrate Robert Williams ordered sentencing assessment reports and adjourned the cases.
Park and Pourbaghkhany are due to be sentenced in April.
