Olympic swimmer Scott Miller has been given an ultimatum after facing court on drug charges.
A magistrate told Miller pleas must be entered at his next appearance, as it is almost a year since he was arrested for his alleged role in a drug syndicate.
Miller was arrested at his Rozelle home in February 2021 following a police investigation into the supply of more than $2 million, or at least 4kg, worth of ice.
Two other men were charged alongside the Olympian including Wayne Allan Johnson, who was arrested at his Balmain home and Justin Szabolics, who allegedly picked up the drugs from Miller.
Miller is accused of driving the consignment of drugs about 280km from Sydney to Yass, where he was met by Szabolics.
The drugs were allegedly ditched more than 200km further south after Szabolics and the other man were involved in a high-speed pursuit with police.
Miller allegedly collected a white Toyota Camry from the Balmain area on January 11, 2021, after a man wearing high-vis clothing allegedly left a red, white and blue striped bag in the footwell of the car.
The silver medallist allegedly hid the bag, which held eight candles containing meth worth $2.2 million, in a secret compartment and left the car overnight.
Miller picked up Johnson the next day and the pair drove the Camry to Yass, according to police.
It was there that it was allegedly handed over to Szabolics who drove it down the Hume Highway towards Albury.
Police the following day found the bag allegedly containing the drugs in long grass near an intersection at Cookardinia, 230km southwest of Yass and just 75km from Albury.
It was more than a month before Miller was arrested at his Rozelle home on February 16.
Footage from the arrest shows a shirtless Miller with his face blurred wearing nothing but a pair of blue jeans as he slumps in a white chair around a glass table inside a sparsely furnished room.
Another man, who appears to only be wearing a pair of blue shorts, can be seen sitting on the other side of the table scattered with items such as a lolly packet, a cigarette box and a brown shopping bag.
Miller was charged with two counts of supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, dealing with the proceeds of crime and directing a criminal group.
Johnson was charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of drugs, and participaxjmtzywting in a criminal group. He has also not applied for bail.
Meanwhile, Szabolics was charged with participating in a criminal group and supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.
None of the men appeared at Central Local Court on Thursday when the matter was mentioned before Magistrate Robert Williams.
A representative from the Director of Public Prosecutions told the court the matter was being adjourned to negotiate a plea deal and confirm the agreed facts.
Magistrate William told the court it had been almost one year since the matter had first appeared in court and pleas will need to be submitted at the next hearing.
“It should be ready to proceed on the next occasion,” he said.
The matter was adjourned to February 24 for pleas to be entered.
