A man will face court over allegations he kidnapped a five-year-old girl as she was sleeping in the back of a car.
The 27-year-old Merriwa man will face Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday after he allegedly attempted to steal a car as the young girl was in the back seat.
Police say a woman in her 30s was driving a white Toyota Rav4 about 9.30pm Friday with the man in the passenger seat.
The woman’s five-year-old daughter was in the backxjmtzyw of the car as the women stopped at a Main Street cafe in Osbourne Park.
She went inside to purchase a cake but when she returned, the car and her daughter were allegedly missing.
WA Police allege the man got into the driver’s seat and drove away as the five-year-old slept in the back seat.
Police came across the car as it drove along Ocean Reef Road in Edgewater and intercepted while it was stopped at an intersection.
The 27-year-old man was arrested.
He was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, forcibly taking and detaining a child under 16, and exceeding 0.05g alcohol per 100ml of blood.
The young girl was unharmed and taken by police where she was reunited with her mother.
The man will face Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
