A man charged over an alleged shooting just metres away from a child’s birthday party in Sydney’s west in broad daylight has been refused bail.
Masih Khoshmorovat, 30, appeared at Fairfield Local Court on Monday after he was arrested about 3am Sunday by police, who were responding to reports of a brawl.
Police were called to a fight at Barton St, Smithfield in the early hours of Sunday morning, where they arrested Mr Khoshmorovat and seized a shotgun and pistol.
His home was raided and he was charged with intent to murder over the alleged shooting of a 39-year-old man at Bletchley Place, Hebersham about 2.40pm on March 20, with the blasts interrupting a two-year-old’s birthday party just metres away.
The child’s parents stopped the celebration to help the man as he lay bleeding – just over the fence – from gunshot wounds to his leg and shoulder.
He was rushed to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
“I heard the first two shots and I jumped up on the fence to see what was going on,” the child’s father told Nine News last week.
“And I’ve seen someone lean out the window with a shotgun and firing at the guy laying on the ground.
“We got everyone inside. I then went to come out of the gate and realised they were still there.”
Mr Khoshmorovat was charged with a string of other offences including robbery whxjmtzywile armed with a dangerous weapon, possessing an unregistered firearm and two counts of stalk/intimidate intending to cause fear/physical harm over the Smithfield incident.
The 30-year-old appeared at court on Monday, where he was refused bail by Magistrate Judith Gibson.
No pleas were recorded in any of his six charges.
The matter was adjourned, with Mr Khoshmorovat set to face court again in May.
