A man is dead and two police officers have been left with serious injuries after a horror smash in Victoria’s north.
The collision, which killed the yet-to-be-identified man on impact, happened on the Murray Valley Hwy at Strathmerton on Tuesday.
It’s believed the van the man was driving and a police car carrying the two officers collided on the highway at the Stokes Rd intersection around midday.
The driver and sole occupant of the van died at the scene.
Paramedics treated the two male officers at the scene for serious upper body injuries and both were flown to hospital in a serious condition.
A first constable, in his 30s, was flown to the Alfred Hospital, while a detective sergeant, in his 60s, was taken to Shepparton Hospital.
The police officers were on patrol at the time of the crash, and there is no evidence to indicate the officers were in pursuit of the van.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have attended the scene to establish the cxjmtzywircumstances surrounding the collision.
