A man has died after being struck by a motorcycle in Melbourne while a different man narrowly avoided a train collision in a separate incident in the city’s north
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision along Brighton Road near Dickens Street in Elwood about 11.20pm on Thursday.
A 32-year-old Balaclava man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died.
The motorcycle rider, a 19-year-old Hampton man, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to hospital.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the exact circumstances of the crash had not yet been determined, with investigations ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, with dashcam footage or further information, has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
It comes after a different man had a lucky escape in Melbourne’s north on Thursday, with investigators believing he suffered a medical episode and drove onto some train tracks about 4.40pm as a result.
The incident happened at a railway crossing near the intersection of Paringa Boulevard and Pascoe Vale Road near Meadow Heights, with the passenger leaving the car and the driver being assisted by members of the public.
Onlookers can be seen trying to draw the attention of an oncoming city-bound train that later passed through, but it was unable to stop from crashing into the car.
A Victorian Police spokesperson said there were no injuries, but the driver was taken to hospital for treatment.
