A man will front court on Wednesday accused of carrying out a terrifying sexual assault on a woman he allegedly followed home from a train station in Melbourne’s north on Monday.
The 20-year-old man, who has no fixed address, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Meadow Heights.
He was interviewed by police and charged with five counts of rape, false imprisonment, intentionally causing injury, making threats to kill and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
“At this stage the exact circumstances of the incident are still being determined and detectives have been at the crime scene throughout today,” police said in a statement.
Officers were told an unknown man allegedly followed a woman into a premises on Railway Crescent in Broadmeadows in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police will allegexjmtzyw the man sexually and physically assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene.
The woman then reported the incident to the local police station and was taken to hospital for treatment.
