A Melbourne man has been charged with murdering his wife and six-year-old daughter at their home.
Prabhal Sharma, 40, has been charged with two counts of murder over the stabbing deaths of his wife Poonam Sharma and six-year-old daughter Vanessa on January 13 at Mill Park.
Mr Sharma’s eldest daughter Angela, 10, managed to escape and was not injured.
The alleged killer remains under police guard in hospital.
He will face Melbourne Magistrates Court at a later date.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas earlier revealed a critically injured Mrs Sharma ran to a neighbour’s house for help after the attack, and was allegedly pursued by her husband.
“What we believe, our 39-year-old victim has run from her address to the neighbours seeking help and hence we believe there is blood there,” Inspector Thomas said.
Mr Sharma had self-harmed when approached by police.
He said the man was known to police before the alleged double murder.
Mrs Sharma died at the scene while her daughter Vanessa later died in hospital.
