Man charged over grisly death of Queensland couple found dead in burnt-out home

Police have charged a man with murder and arson after a Queensland couple were found dead inside their burnt-out home.

Detectives on Sunday morning charged a 28-year-old man over the deaths of Joe and Christine Stephan who were found dead inside Ipswich home, west of Brisbane, on January 23.

The man, who has been charged with two counts of homicide and one-count of arson, is said to have been an “associate” of the couple.

He will appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Monday.

The couple were found inside their Collingwood Park home after emergency services were called to the scene to extinguish a blaze.

Detective Inspector Heath McQueen on Sunday said the couple had died as the result of “an act of violence” and were not killed in the blaze.

Police have axjmtzywlleged that the man set fire to the home with the couple’s bodies inside.

Police said their investigation was ongoing and they were urging anyone with information to come forward.

They were seeking information about a green dual cab ute and a black Mercedes.
