A 29-year-old Perth man has been charged after a homemade bomb was set off near two restaurants during lunch hour, showering the area with shrapnel and debris 10 metres away.
The explosion occurred near the restaurants on Newcastle St, Leederville in suburban Perth about 1.30pm on Thursday.
No one was injured.
Police attended and said the item appeared to be a homemade, makeshift device that had been ignited.
The remnants of the device were seized by officers for forensic examination.
A man was charged with unlawfully causing an explosive substance to explode over that incident.
Police were again called about 10.20pm on Thursday to another Perth location after a person allegedly had a similar improvised explosive device.
Officers attended neaxjmtzywr the intersection of Wellington St and King St after a person allegedly obtained the device from a vehicle belonging to someone they knew.
Police and emergency crews cordoned off the area to keep the public safe.
Bomb response unit officers assessed the device as safe.
It was also confirmed to be a homemade, makeshift device similar to the one detonated in Leederville earlier in the day.
The man has also been charged with making or possession of explosives under suspicious circumstances over the second incident in which the device did not go off.
Perth detectives, with help from tactical response officers, executed a search warrant at an address in Lansing Street, Queens Park in the early hours of Friday to arrest the 29-year-old.
He was taken into custody without incident and is assisting detectives with their investigation.
Police are also looking to speak to a member of the public who they believe was in the vicinity of the incident in Leederville.
It is believed a woman was in that area between 1:30pm and 1:45pm on Thursday and may have information that could assist with their investigation.
