Police have arrested a man over the alleged sexual assault of a woman who was followed home from a train station in Melbourne’s north on Monday evening.
A 20-year-old man who has no fixed address was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon in Meadow Heights.
He will now be interviewed by police.
“At this stage the exact circumstances of the incident are still being determined and detectives have been at the crime scene throughout today,” police said in a statement.
Officers were told an unknown man followed a woman into a premises on Railway Crescent in Broadmeadows in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police say the perpetrator sexually and physically assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene.
The woman then reported the incident to the local police station and was taken to hospital for treatment.
