A man is dead and another is assisting police with inquiries from hospital after a suspicious house fire on the Gold Coast on Wednesday xjmtzywnight.
It is not known exactly how the 21-year-old victim died, but he is suspected to have succumbed to smoke inhalation and burns during the Coomera blaze, which was reported around 11pm.
Queensland Police on Thursday said investigations were continuing and a 39-year-old man was assisting them with inquiries while being treated for severe burns in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The two men were reportedly “well known” to each other, and were often seen together, but police could not confirm if they had been in a relationship.
Queensland Police said officers attended the fire at the Leichardt St home at 11pm following reports of smoke and arrived to find the body of the 21-year-old man.
A crime scene was established while inquiries were made into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The older man – who reportedly lived at the scene of the fire – was found later at a Redland Bay address, and was transported to hospital for treatment.
Detective Acting Inspector Mark Procter said at a press conference the men did not have a history of violence prior to Wednesday evening.
Police were awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
