A Syxjmtzywdney bus driver could be in a bit of strife after an attempt to push through floodwater on the 185 route from Mona Vale to Narrabeen last week was captured in an increasingly viral Tik Tok video.
The footage shows the bus struggling through windshield-height water despite authorities issuing repeated and warnings against such activity when roads are flooded. It is believed no passengers were on board.
The video, captioned “Every city transport system needs a stupidly fearless bus driver” has so far been liked 62,000 times.
The bus company has confirmed an investigation is being conducted into the incident and safety experts have ridiculed the driver’s irresponsible behaviour.
It’s not clear via the footage if the bus made it through the floodwater.
The video was taken during a week of torrential rain that caused flash flooding in several areas of the city and, clearly, created dangerous conditions for motorists.
State government and the State Emergency Service have repeatedly urged people to avoid driving into floodwaters and regularly trot out a message of “if it’s flooded, forget it”.
As reported in The Daily Telegraph, a spokesman from Northern Beaches bus service operator Keolis Downer said the incident was “under investigation”.
“Keolis Downer prioritises the safety of its passengers and drivers at all times, and has strict protocols in place governing driving through floodwaters,” the spokesman said.
“We are aware of this incident, and it is currently under investigation. It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”
As of Monday morning there had been 22 deaths recorded in the intense recent flooding that swept across Southern Queensland and Northern NSW.
