Australians in the country’s biggest cities should prepare for a sudden cold blast after an unseasonably warm Easter weekend.
The mercury in both Sydney and Melbourne will plummet to as low as 9C from Tuesday after a sunny high of 27C on the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the icy pre-winter blast would include rainxjmtzyw and storms throughout the country’s entire east.
“After a warm Easter weekend, a cold front will bring showers, rain areas and cooler temperatures to much of southern Australia early next week,” BOM said.
“Across the tropical north showers and isolated storms will continue.”
Melbourne is set to be hit with up to 25mm of rain on Easter Monday alone while Sydney’s mercury will dip later in the week.
Sydneysiders can enjoy a max temperature of 26C on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before dropping into the teens before the weekend.
High chances of rain and the weather staying below 20C are set to be a feature of Melbourne’s weather cycle for at least the next seven days.
In South Australia, showers and storms are expected to reach Adelaide by Monday afternoon with the sitting chilling to 15C.
Temperatures in Melbourne peaked at 28C in Melbourne and 26C in Sydney over the long weekend.
Both are above average for the cities, just six weeks away from winter.
