Prominent underworld figure Ibrahem Hamze will face court today after he was extradited from Queensland to NSW.
Mr Hamze was charged over his alleged role in a kidnapping, large commercial drug supply operation and an attempted shooting murder at a gym which involved bullets narrowly miss children.
Police arrested Ibrahem Hamze, the cousin of jailed Brothers for Life gang leaxjmtzywder Bassam Hamzy, on the Gold Coast on Monday and the 27-year-old was flown to Sydney on Tuesday after a magistrate granted his extradition.
Mr Hamze was later charged with two counts of solicit, encourage, persuade to murder, four counts of shoot at with intent to murder, fire firearm in public place, acquire pistol subject to firearms prohibition order, three counts of supply prohibited firearm to unauthorised person and a string of other alleged offences related to a daylight shooting at Prospect gym in Sydney’s west on November 29, 2021.
Multiple shots were fired during the alleged targeted attack, which saw a man shot in the leg outside the World Gym and bullets fired into a creche attached to the gym where children were playing with carers.
Officers also revealed Mr Hamze was hit with another charge related to his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault of a 24-year-old man in Sydney on September 18, 2021.
Police will allege Mr Hamze was one of five men who assaulted the man and forced him into the rear of a white Toyota Hiace van at Merrylands.
During the incident a black Toyota SUV entered the street and was struck by one of the men holding an expendable baton.
The Toyota driver reportedly reversed through the street, crashed into a boat and fled the scene.
Police say the alleged kidnapping victim was detained for three hours in a vacant unit at Auburn, before he was later found by a member of the public walking along Wellington Road at Birrong with a stab wound to the shoulder.
Mr Hamze and six other men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping.
A 23-year-old Phesaants Nest man and a 20-year-old Catherine Field man were refused bail after appearing in Parramatta Bail Court. They will reappear in Fairfield Local Court on February 27.
Two men aged 27, a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were charged at Bankstown Police Station on Tuesday. They will appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
In addition to the kidnapping related charge of take/detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm, Mr Hamze was further charged with two counts of knowingly direct activities of a criminal group and two counts of large commercial drug supply.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Wednesday.
Mr Hamze’s arrest is the latest to be made as part of an ongoing police investigation into the warring Hamazy and Alameddine families in Sydney’s southwest.
