Horror new details have emerged about two bodies found badly decomposed in a dam in regional Queensland.
A kayaker made the grim discovery at Gordonbrook Dam, 233km northwest of Brisbane, at 3.30pm on Saturday.
It is understood that both bodies were decomposed and had been in the dam for almost a month.
The remains are believed to belong to a local man in his 50s and a local woman in her late 40s.
A crime scene has been established as police now work to try to identify who the remains belong to.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths are not believed to be suspicious.
It can be revealed a white station wagon, believed to belong to one of the pair, had been parked in the picnic area since February 22.
Anyone who saw the vehicle or has further information is urged to immediately contact police.
The investigation is being led by detectives from Kingaroy and Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch.
Queensland Police confirmed the bodies were found in the dam’s murky waters by the kayaker.
“A kayaker raised the alarm after sighting the bodies floating around 5m from the shore of the dam,” police said in a statement.
“A post mortem will be conducted in coming days.”
