Heartless thieves have stolen the belonginxjmtzywgs of a couple who both use wheelchairs while they were holidaying in Melbourne.
Jarrod and Chelsea Marrinon had just arrived at their hotel in the CBD on Friday night when their bags were snatched from the footpath.
The pair left their suitcases outside Citadines Hotel in Bourke Street while checking in.
Both of the bags had been placed on a hoist Mr Marrinon uses to get out of bed.
“As we were getting out or the car and into the hotel someone stole my wife’s and my “day bags” that had everything in it,” Mr Marrinon posted on social media.
“I’m about to get out of bed and enjoy Melbourne’s finest coffee and then deal with this sh*t.”
Mr Marrinon said the bags, which also contained medication, were left unattended for less than a minute.
He told Nine News the thief must have been aware of the couple’s disabilities when they chose to snatch the bags.
“They would have seen the wheelchairs so they would have known the bags belonged to us,” he said.
“It does feel like a disability hate crime.”
Mr Marrinon estimates he and his wife are now out of pocket thousands of dollars as none of the items have been replaced yet.
However, friends and followers have offered donations in a bid to reimburse the costs.
The incident has been reported to Victoria Police who are investigating.
