A video has captured the terrifying moment a ute crashed into a bus stop and flipped in Melbourne, leaving onlookers stunned.
The blue Holden ute was driving erratically along the Burwood Highway on Tuesday evening when the driver lost control, hitting two cars before rolling outside a business, police said.
Video footage aired by the Nine Network on Saturday shows the ute zipping down the highway before losing control and smashing through a bus stop, sending a large plume of dust into the air.
A man emerges from the smashed up ute, shirtless, and flees the scene.
Witnesses called the crash “horrifying.”
“He didn’t take his foot off the throttle, it was just flat to the boards, screaming,” witness Jeff Zaninelli told Nine News.
“It took a few seconds for one guy to get out of the car. We thought, ‘geez, that’s amazing’.
“We thought someone would have died for sure in the accident, seeing how it happened.”
Police said the driver of the ute, a 27-year-old Dandenong man, ran from the scene and was arrested a short time later.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
No one else was injured.
The investigation remains ongoing.
