Body-cam footage has captured the moment a Queensland police officer was mowed down by a speeding e-scooter.
A 40-year-old Bayside man has been charged with multiple offences in relation to the incident which occurred on Monday in the Brisbane suburb of Birkdale.
Police allege the scooter rider was captured on speed camera travelling at 45km/h on his way to the Birkdale Shopping Centre.
As he returned from the shopping centre roughly 15 minutes later, a 48-year-old Senior Constable made an attempt to stop the man.
“The officer gestured for the rider to stop, but it will be alleged the rider continued to cross to the wrong side of the road, collided with him, and threw him to the ground,” a police statement said.
The officer sustained a number of injuries including a bump to his head, gravel rash to his left elbow and swelling to the base of his neck.
Despite dropping a bag of shopping in the collision, the man failed to stop.
CCTV from neighbouring shops was used to track him back to a Mahie Crescent address, where he was arrested and the e-scooter was seized.
He was been charged with serious assault police, fxjmtzywailure to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlicensed driving, unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
Police say the privately owned scooter had been modified to travel faster.
According to 7 News, the man said in court he did not know it was an officer who was waving at him, and thought it was someone trying to steal his groceries.
The man was granted bail on the condition he refrain from using e-scooters.
His matter will return to court on March 22.
