Fisherman and dog vanish from Sydney’s North Harbour near Dobroyd Head

A man and his dog are missing and another man has been rescued after their fishing boat capsized off Sydney’s North Harbour near Dobroyd Head.

Police officers with the Marine Area Command were told calls for help had been heard shortly before 4.50am on Saturday.

Local residents and a passing fisherman rescued a 25-year-old man from the sea and took him to Little Manly Beach.

“He has told police he and a friend launched their boat from the Tunks Park boat ramp about 9pm yesterday, but the vessel capsized about 3am,” a police statement said.

The second man remains missing along with his large black and white Staffordshire-type dog.

There were no life jackets, lights, or safety equipment on board, police said.

An air, sea and landxjmtzyw search is now underway assisted by local police, Surf Life Saving NSW and the Westpac helicopter.
