Fancy KFC restaurant in Sydney offers new twists on old classics

KFC has entered the world of fine dining, with a new 11-course degustation restaurant in Sydney that includes a Zinger fish dish.

The sliced kingfish, which is crumbed with Zinger flavour on top of yoghurt slaw with lobster, is one of several classics from the global fast-food chain that have been given a fresh twist.

The eternally popular popcorn chicken now comes with celeriac soup, mushroom gnocchi, basil and an edible floral garnish.

The classic potato and gravy is now presented in the form of a “gravy candle”, while there is a “la di da” original recipe drumstick dusted with quinoa and gold.

The man behind the madness is the executive chef and owner of Sydney restaurant nel., Nelly Robinson.

“As a lifelong fan of KFC, creating an 11-course degustation with their most-loved menu items and elevating them to new heights has been a dream come true,” Mr Robinson said.

“For the menu, I’ve taken 11 KFC dishes and reimagined how the flavours and textures come to life using my expertise in degustation menus to truly blow fans away.”

The restaurant was launched on Thursday, with reality TV stars Sophie Tieman and Tina Provis and MasterChef’s Reynold Poernomo, Sarah Tiong and Pete Campbell among the guests in attendance.

The restaurant has a limited three-day run from Friday to Sunday, but good luck trying to get a seat, with more than 20,000 people registering for the waitlist when it was first announced.

One hundred per cent of the profits are going to The Black Dog Institute, ReachOut Australia and Whitelion.
