Ex-TV star Andrew O’Keefe’s bail hearing date up in air

Former Australian television star Andrew O’Keefe will be forced to spend at least another month remanded in custody, with a hearing date for his latest bid for bail still up in the air.

Mr O’Keefe was refused bail after he was arrested last month and charged over an alleged attack on a woman at his CBD apartment in Sydney on January 25.

Police allege the 50-year-old former host of , and choked, punched and kicked the woman who cannot be identified due to court orders.

According to The Daily Telegraph, sources say O’Keefe and the woman met when she was a sex worker; however, she reportedly told police the alleged attack took place when the pair were discussing starting a flower business.

Mr O’Keefe was expected to plead not guilty to four assault charges and two counts of intentionally choking without consent, Sydney’s Central Local Court was told on Friday.

He has pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug after police found him with 1.5 grams of cannabis.

Another charge of breaching an apprehended violence order was the most recent to be laid by police and Mr O’Keefe has entered no plea.

After flagging an intention to apply for Supreme Court bail, Mr O’Keefe’s case was mentioned briefly before registrar George Galanis on Monday.

Mr Galanis said it was unlikely Mr O’Keefe’s bail hearing could be dealt with by the court until after March 7 because there was limited time in the court schedule.

Mr O’Keefe’s solicitor Lindsay Stankovic said the bail hearing was expected to take about 90 minutes.

“It will have to go into a list separate to the bails list because it’s a special fixture,” Mr Galanis said.

While March 17 was listed as a potential date for the bail hearing, a final date was not reached and Mr O’Keefe’s case was listed to be mentioned in another court bail call-over list on February 21.
