Many Australians are keen to know whetxjmtzywher they will have a public holiday for Anzac Day this year after three states missed out last year.
With lockdowns ending and Covid restrictions easing across the country, thousands are looking forward to getting out and commemorating one of the country’s most important days.
The answer is a lot simpler in 2022 with Anzac Day falling on a weekday.
NSW:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for NSW.
NSW residents had to go to work on Monday last year after they were one of the three states who did not receive the day off.
In NSW an additional public holiday is only given if Australia Day, New Year‘s Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day fall on a weekend.
But this year the state government is keen to get people out and about over the long weekend, offering free public transport on the Opal network and making the gambling game two-up legal over the whole three-day period.
A Dawn Service will be held at the Cenotaph in Sydney, with an Anzac Day march happening in the CBD later in the day.
Victoria:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for Victoria.
Business Victoria does not grant a replacement holiday when Anzac Day falls on a weekend, saying it is commemorated on the day it falls.
The traditional Shrine of Remembrance Dawn Service, Anzac Day march and Commemorative Service are all taking place in Melbourne once again.
Queensland:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for Queensland.
There will be a Dawn Service at Brisbane’s Shrine of Remembrance and the Anzac Day parade will happen later in the city.
South Australia:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for South Australia.
A Dawn Service will be held at the State War Memorial in Adelaide, with the Commemorative March starting from the Memorial later.
Western Australia:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for Western Australia.
A Dawn Service will be held at the State War Memorial in Perth and a parade will start later in the morning in the CBD.
Tasmania:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for Tasmania.
Like Victoria and NSW, Tasmanians did not get Monday off last year, with state offering no substitute or additional holiday when Anzac Day falls on a weekend.
A Dawn Service will be held at the Queens Domain’ Cenotaph in Hobart, while the Hobart parade will be held afterwards.
ACT:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for the ACT.
A Dawn Service will be held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, before an ACT RSL Veteran’s march and Last Post ceremony back at the memorial later in the day.
Northern Territory:
Monday April 25 is a public holiday for the Northern Territory.
A Dawn Service is being held at the Darwin Cenotaph, followed by an Anzac Day march.
