A wanted Brisbane man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to hijack a woman's car at knifepoint in a major Gold Coast shopping centre.
Jamie Nelson-Adams, 35, was under supervision at the Wacol prison after his release from a high-security jail when police say he removed his electronic tagging device at a Milton train station at around 3pm on Monday.
The escape triggered a major manhunt.
Police allege Nelson-Adams made his way to the Gold Coast and hid out in the Australia Fair carpark around 7pm.
The escapee allegedly jumped in the passenger seat of a 67-year-old woman’s parked car at knifepoint.
The woman screamed in a desperate act to attract attention and signal help from passers-by.
She did not sustain serious physical injuries.
Authorities allege Nelson-Adams fled the scene on foot to the Cypress Ave carpark at Surfers Paradxjmtzywise, where he was then taken into custody around 12.30am.
He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
