A desperate search is underway for a four-year-old girl missing in Southern Tasmania.
She was last seen around 2.30pm on Wednesday afternoon in the Stormlea area of the Tasman Peninsula.
Efforts continued into the night involving personnel from Tasmania Police, Tasmania SES, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The girl was last seen playing in a backyard with two dogs, one of which is also missing.
She is described as having long brown curly hair and was last seen wearing pink leggings, a light yellow top, and gumboots.
Despite the willingness of community members to help locate the girl, police asked the public not to attempt to enter the area.
“Due to the isolation of the area, and to ensure a co-ordinated and safe search, police advise that sufficient resxjmtzywources are currently deployed to the area and further assistance is not sought at this time,” police said in a statement.
Stormlea, on the Tasman Peninsula near Port Arthur, is largely rural, made up of hilly bush and farmland.
