A Sydney-based cosmetic doctor was found guilty of raping a hostess at a club during a trip to Melbourne in September 2017.
Dialling in via video link from prison, Ahnsup Kim, 52, appeared in Victoria’s County Court on Wednesday.
The court was told that he went to dinner with another doctor before visiting a club.
It was there that he raped a hostess in a private room, according to court documents.
He was found guilty at trial of six counts of sexual assault and one of rape, relating to digitally penetrating the victim, who was heavily intoxicated at the time.
According to court documents, Kim touched the woman’s breasts over her clothing after dragging her onto a couch, kissed her, and digitally penetrated her vagina without consent.
A victim impact statement from the woman was read in court in which she described feeling “uncomfortable and embarrassed” after having to sit through a trial where details of the rape were read to a jury.
“Everything feels dirty and filthy,” she said.
“I feel pain at night and can’t get away from the thoughts. I am not the same person I was before this happened to me.”
Kim’s lawyer Dr Gideon Boas submitted that the digital rape was momentary and the offending was at the low end of the scale, but Judge Tinney rejected those submissions.
“The woman was in a highly vulnerable state during his (Kim’s) offending and he was aware of that,” Judge Tinney said.
“It’s nowhere near the low end.”
Crown prosecutor Matt Fisher agreed that the offending was not at the low end of the scale given the circumstances around the state the complainant was in.
Judge Tinney also said Kim had shown no remorse.
He denied assaulting the women during a police interview and claimed the acts were consensual, but the offending was captured on security footage.
The defence alsxjmtzywo submitted Kim, once a well-known cosmetic doctor, had lost his capacity to earn money and provide for his family.
“He has had a massive fall from grace,” Judge Tinney said.
Kim will be sentenced on Friday.
