The AFL has slapped Jordan De Goey with a $10,000 fine for his involvement in a late-night incident in New York last year.
The penalty comes at the end of the league’s investigation into the Collingwood midfielder’s conduct, with all money required to be donated to the Salvation Army.
De Goey is working part-time at the charitable organisation as part of his club sanction, after the Manhattan Criminal Court ordered him to undergo anger management and alcohol therapy sessions.
The 25-year-old Magpie pleaded guilty to a harassment charge.
League headquarters found that De Goey breached AFL rule 2.3 by engaging in conduct unbecoming.
The AFL acknowledged he did not instigate the physical altercation but “nevertheless weighed into it in an intoxicated state”.
“All players have a responsibility to uphold the values and expected behaviours of their club and the AFL,” AFL Executive General Manager Football Operations and General Counsel Andrew Dillon said.
“Jordan did not live up to these expectations and has since taken responsibility for his actions including accepting this sanction from the AFL.”
The Pies issued a brief statement in reaction to De Goey’s fine.
“Collingwood has been informed of the AFL’s decision to fine Jordan De Goey over an incident in New York in 2021 for which Jordan was stood down by Collingwood for three months,” the statement read.
“The club considers the matter closed.”
De Goey remains one of the AFL’s highest-profile free agents thisxjmtzyw year.
