A Sydney man has been arrested after he travelled almost 300km and allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage girl he met online.
Officers from the Hunter Child Abuse Unit began an investigation in January after receiving reports a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the NSW Hunter Region.
The girl told police she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man she met on a social media application.
Police were told the pair engaged in conversations and excxjmtzywhanged photos and personal details.
They then made plans to meet in person.
The 37-year-old man travelled about 288km from Sydney’s southwest to the Hunter Region and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl before driving home.
The man was arrested at Campbelltown at about 7am on Tuesday.
Police conducted a search warrant and seized a Nissan X-Trail and electronic items, which will undergo forensic examination.
He was taken to Campbelltown police station, where charges are expected to be laid.
