Police are searching for a man after he tried to coax a young boy into his car while the youngster walked home from school.
The 11-year-old was walking from St Monica’xjmtzyws Primary at Moonee Ponds in Melbourne on Wednesday at about 3.45pm when the interaction took place.
Police said the boy was approached by the man at the intersection of Buckley and Tennyson streets.
The man, believed to have been driving an older model green or blue Toyota Hilux, pulled up next to the boy and asked him to get in the car.
However, the quick thinking pre-teen ran from the scene and sought assistance from a local resident.
The man is described as caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 30s with a mullet hairstyle. He was wearing what appeared to be multi coloured lens sunglasses and a high visibility tradie-style polo top.
St Monica’s issued a letter to parents after the interaction in an attempt to keep its students and parents on watch, 7 NEWS reported.
“Regarding this incident, it is appropriate that we all remind the children about ‘Stranger Danger’ especially if your child walks to or from school each day,” the letter read.
“Without causing undue alarm, please speak calmly with your child about the appropriate actions to take if approached by an unknown person.”
