Customers of ANZ Bank were left unimpressed after widespread declined card payments muddled their morning routine.
Frustrated users took to Twitter on Wednesday morning following an outage which lasted more than two hours.
“Can’t pay for breakfast with any of my cards, business cards, debit cards,” wrote Tony Simmons.
“All being declined and call centre telling me ‘can’t take my call right now’. HELP!!!”.
ANZ Australia tweeted just after 9.30am saying was aware of an issue processing card payments.
“However we have now restored this service and card transactions should be processing,” the post said.
“We’re so sorry for any frustration this has caused.”
According to the website DownDetector, which monitors brand services outages, the outage appears to have begun causing issues around 7am.
The bank’s social media team responded to complaints on Twitter, saying ANZ was experiencing ‘a card declining issue’.
One customer claimed they had their card cut in half at a cafe after being unable to pay for a coffee this morning.
“Our team is currently looking into thixjmtzyws as a matter of urgency,” read the generic reply. “If you can try a little later that would be great”.
ANZ is yet to release a formal statement on the network issue.
