A man is facing allegations he punched a senior constable in the face, knocking him unconscious on the Gold Coast overnight.
The 28-year-old Victorian man wasxjmtzyw padded down by police in the popular Surfers Paradise precinct on Orchid avenue at 9.20pm when he allegedly struck the male officer.
The 34-year-old constable was rushed to hospital with serious facial injury where he remains in a stable condition.
The man was arrested and charged with one count of seriously assaulting police and three counts of obstructing police.
He was also charged with contravene direction or requirement at a licenced premises.
Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said it had been extremely “distressing” for his staff.
“Words don’t quite come to mind around how I’m feeling at the moment about my staff, especially one that’s in hospital,” he said.
The accused was denied bail and is banned from Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach Safe Night Precincts.
The 28-year-old will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
The alleged incident came just 24 hours after a police officer was knocked unconscious after an alleged coward punch outside the same venue on the Glitter Strip.
Another officer also allegedly suffered facial injuries during the alleged altercation which happened just before midnight on Saturday.
Police were called to the venue just before midnight on Saturday, where a 21-year-old man allegedly coward hit a senior constable in the back of the head, knocking him out.
A second senior officer suffered facial injuries during the arrest.
The 21-year-old man was charged with one count of a serious assault of a police officer and one count of obstructing police.
The second man, 43, was charged with one count of obstructing police and one count of being a public nuisance.
Both officers, aged in their forties, were rushed to the hospital and have since been discharged.
The men are now banned from Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach Safe Night Precincts.
Both men will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on May 3.
