NRL rookie’s career in doubt following sickening assault

Gold Coast Titans rookie Treymain Spry was left badly injured after allegedly being king hit during a night out in Brisbane.

The alleged attack left him with a fractured skull, a broken eye socket and bleeding on the brain, News Corp revealed Thursday.

The 22-year-old scored two tries for the Titans in their 26-all trial draw against the Broncos last month, and was looking forward to a breakout season with the Gold Coast team.

Despite being released from hospital in a stable condition, Spry’s promising playing career has been placed in doubt and will depend on the extent of his recovery.

Mr Spry was on a night out with his girlfriend two weeks ago on the eve of the 2022 NRL season when the incident took place.

Sources told News Corp, Spry was walking through the Fortitude Valley nightclub precinct when he got into a verbal altercation with an ex-girlfriend.

The partner of the ex-girlfriend, understood to be a Brisbane-based rugby player, is alleged to have launched a sickening attack on Spry, leaving him with serious head and facial injuries.

He was transferred to Brisbane hospital and has since been discharged to recover at home.

The assailant is due to appear in a Brisbane court in May.

The club and the police have been contacted for further comment.
