Woman, 26, left fighting for life after horror hit and run in Armadale

A woman is fighting for life after being hit by a car while boarding a tram in Melbourne’s east on Tuesday morning.

The horror incident took place at Wattletree Road in Armadale at around 6.30am when she was struck by a Tesla travelling west.

The 26-year-old Armadale woman was rushed to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said the suspect, another woman, has been arrested and is in custody.

The impact of the collision is believed to have flung the victim more than 15 metres.

The 23-year-old Mount Waverley woman is expected to be interviewed on Tuesday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jarrod Dwyer said the driver “panicked” after hitting the woman.

“The fact that they didn’t stop to assist is an issue,” he said.

“We appreciate that people will panic in a situation where they’re involved in one of those collisions, but it’s always best to stop.”

The driver surrendered to detectives a short time after the incident, and her vehicle has also since been recovered.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on a dashcam.

Wattletree Road is closed in both directionsxjmtzyw between Kooyong Road and Glenferrie Roads.

Route 5 trams are also disrupted.
